Buffalo router very slow

Having trouble streaming Netflix to mobile devices? Do webpages take an unusually long time to load? Consider changing the channel!

Sluggish Wi-Fi performance is often caused by multiple routers and devices occupying the same wireless channel frequency, causing interference. This is commonplace in crowded environments where there are many connected devices saturating the wireless airspace, such as in office buildings or apartments. You can improve performance by tapping into your router and configuring the channel that it operates on to one that is less congested.

CHANNEL FREQUENCY

Today’s wireless routers transmit data primarily through two frequency bands, 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, and each frequency has multiple channels to choose from. For example, the more popular 2.4 GHz frequency, which most wireless routers and devices run on, features 11 overlapping channels (in North America) that are 20 MHz wide.

Some routers, such as Buffalo’s, have a default setting that joins the least crowded channel automatically. However, if your wireless router lacks this feature or fails to pick the optimal frequency, you could be stuck on an overcrowded channel where performance is likely stunted.

WHAT CHANNEL ARE YOU ON?

If you have the sneaking suspicion that your router is on a highly trafficked frequency, there are tools available for download that can scan your wireless airspace to give you a snap shot of what channels are crowded and which are unoccupied. One of the most commonly cited tools is . Additionally, there are some free tools such as for Android.

Once you put the wireless scanning program of your choice to use, take note of which channels are busiest. You’ll want to consider changing your channel to the least crowded frequency, or one that is far enough away from the overloaded channel. To completely eliminate overlapping, at least five channels need to be moved up or down in a 20 MHz setting.

HOW DO YOU CHANGE IT?

Now that you’ve identified the optimal wireless channel, it’s time to make the change.

Buffalo AirStations can be easily configured by logging in to the router’s interface from a web browser on your computer. Once logged in, click on the “Wireless Config” tab and then the “Basic” tab. Now, simply set the frequency to the channel you identified earlier as the least crowded or furthest away from the busiest channel.

How do i find my buffalo router if the username and password arn't root?

i really need help i'm trying to make a server and it needs port forward or something and i typed 192.168.11.1 and it popped out username and password i searched and found default password was root and password was blank but it still didn't let me log in please i need help finding username and password

You need to ask whoever set it up what they set the password as. Failing that you will need to do a hard reset, but then you will also need to know the ISP login user name and password, and any other connection settings required for your service. Otherwise you will lose your connection.
